This small sandy bay was named after a whaling brigantine which drifted onto rocks in 1861 and was wrecked.

With picnic facilities, a playground, plenty of parking and toilets this has been a popular spot for generations.

It is also a popular place to explore the harbour by kayak.

It is part way along the Lyttelton to Pony Point Walk
